U16 Football – ER v Banagher – 25 Apr 2013

Eoghan Rua v Banagher

6-13  —  1-3

Banagher came to Pairc Eoghan Rua more in hope than anticipation last Thursday night. Played in dry and bright but cold conditions the home team, wind assisted, quickly settled into their rhythm with a Paddy Mullan free. Some clever off the ball running opened the Banagher defense time and again and it was only a matter of time before goals would flow. These came courtesy of Barry Daly (2) Hal McGonigle (2) and Shea Eastwood. Paddy Mullan unselfishly setup Barry for a goal when it looked certain he would take his own point. Unfortunately Paddy then got himself needlessly booked and was replaced soon after with Shea Eastwood. The management team are determined to instil a strong sense of discipline into the squad and where their footballing skills will do the talking for them.

The first half continued with Eoghan Rua onslaughts on the Banagher goal and by half time they had built up a commanding 5-9 to no score.

The second half was a much tighter affair but allowed the home team to run out all of their substitutes giving them much needed game time. A number of these showed well particularly Justin Donnelly and Callum McKinney. Cillian Butler made a number of fine saves in the Coleraine goals and continues to make huge strides with his skills development. There was little he could do though about the Banagher goal which was rattled into the net after a fine solo run from the half back line. The enthusiasm is building within the squad and it is imperative that everyone turns out for training as there will be much more difficult matches coming up in the near future. Competition for places is now stronger than ever and that is what the management wish to see.

There were good performances from Simon Purvis and Connor Boyle in defense with Hal McGonigle, Niall Brown and Barry Daly to the fore in attack. Shea McLaughlin and Thomas Magee had a good day in the middle of the park.
